They were co-developed by PCG and John Van Dreal, author of the Salem-Keizer Cascade Model. This leading model was developed over 20 years ago by an educator for educators and the education community.

ABOUT THIS COURSE
With the Salem-Keizer Cascade preventive BTA system as a model, this course provides a template for building a sustainable, school-based threat assessment system composed of school site teams and community-based collaboration.
Participants in this course will:
- Review research and basic principles regarding threat assessment and threat management
- Learn the framework of a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency threat assessment and management system that is protocol-driven, user-friendly, and designed for educators, school resource officers (SROs), school-based mental health professionals, juvenile justice services, and other education staff
- Receive training on the use of protocols for youth threat assessment
- Review the steps and developmental procedures necessary to implement the system
- Learn how to adapt the framework to existing community resources
- Engage in lab exercises and case reviews

With the Salem-Keizer Cascade preventive BTA system as a model, this course builds upon the tools covered in BTA101 and includes auxiliary resources to provide community-based elements for the school site teams to use.
Participants in this course will:
- Review the steps and developmental procedures necessary to implement the Level 1 process covered in BTA101
- Explore auxiliary forms that support the Level 1 protocol from BTA101
- Address confidentiality requirements and laws related to BTA
- Participate in case exercises and conduct student threat assessments using Level 1 forms from BTA101

ABOUT THIS COURSE
Level 2 of the program provides learners with an understanding of a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, and community-based BTA system.
Participants in this course will:
- Describe the role and composition of the community-based Level 2 threat assessment system
- List the local and regional resources as well as the available youth-serving agency support for a Level 2 team
- Discuss the process for referral to a community-based Level 2 threat assessment support team
- Problem-solve the implementation challenges of the Level 2 team within a school district
- Apply knowledge through case study exercises
